San Diego County residents went to the polls Tuesday to select candidates in key races including gubernatorial, state legislative and congressional seats.
Soon after the polls close at 8 p.m., the San Diego County Registrar of Voters began sending election results to NBC 7. See the list of election results here.
U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein was cruising toward a first-place finish in her bid for a fifth full term in Washington.
Feinstein's opponent hasn't been determined, but fellow Democrat Kevin de Leon, a state senator, is hoping to secure the second spot. Little-known Republican James Bradley is also in the running for second place.
In the race for California governor, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom and San Diego businessman John Cox both announced their advancements by 10:15 p.m.
Because more than 1.1 million mail ballots were sent out to San Diego County residents for the June 5 primary election, most of the county's 1.69 million registered voters were expected to skip the voting booth.
That could mean it may take days or possibly weeks for the registrar to tally the votes.

The results must be certified 30 days after the election or by July 5.
