A 19-year-old woman, shot in her head and lower body by someone she knew, was found bleeding by a passerby on a set of stairs leading to a Point Loma beach, San Diego police investigators said Thursday.
A passerby called San Diego Police Department (SDPD) at about 7 a.m. to report a person was wounded on the staircase leading from the bluffs to a small tidepool area near the intersection of Ladera Street and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, SDPD said.
The teenager had multiple gunshot wounds to her lower body and was also bleeding from her head, SDPD Lt. Dan Grubbs said. Homicide investigators later confirmed she was also shot in the head.
Officers said when they arrived, the teenager was awake and told them she didn't know what happened to her.
SDPD officials said the teenager was shot by someone she knew, that she was targeted, but they would not reveal why.
As of 11:45 p.m. Thursday, no arrests had been made in the case.
Medics arrived and transported her to a nearby hospital, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD).

The victim was initially listed in critical condition. By 11:30 a.m., she had undergone surgery and was in stable condition, Grubbs said.
A suspect has not been located. SDPD detectives were casing the area for anyone who may have seen or heard anything, the lieutenant said.
No one in the area reported hearing any gunshots.
