San Diego County is participating in a new pharmacy program that will allow residents to receive a discount on prescription drugs by using a Coast2Coast Rx Card.
The card is free and available to anyone, even people with health insurance. There are no qualifications, limits or exclusions and paperwork is not required. Cards can be used for individuals or entire families.
Alexandra Miller, an event organizer, said residents were slated to receive an explanation about how the card works at a public event in Hillcrest Tuesday.
“I think we’re going to get quite a turnout,” Miller said.
Event directors will have a few cards on hand, but residents are encouraged to print cards online or pick up one at the local libraries. No future events are planned in San Diego at this time, Miller said.
San Diego County supervisors approved the program last month. It is financed by Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., which established the Coast2Coast RX Card program to provide prescription savings.
Supervisors expect county residents to save millions of dollars throughout the next year.
More than 60,00 prescription drugs are covered by the card, which offer savings up to 65 percent off retail price. Thousands of pharmacies are participating in the program, including all major chains such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.
Residents who cannot make the event today can pick up a card at a county or city library, or a card can be printed out online.
