SDPD Increases Presence Near Places of Worship Following Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

The San Diego Police Department will have extra enforcement at local religious buildings after a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that left at least eight dead Saturday morning.

Chief of Police David Nisleit tweeted a few hours after the shooting to confirm the increased presence out of “an abundance of caution.”

We are monitoring the situation in Pittsburgh and communicating with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners. At this time, there is nothing to indicate a connection to San Diego. However, in an abundance of caution, you will see extra patrols at houses of worship.

NBC 7 reached out to police departments in Oceanside, El Cajon, and La Mesa. All said they were not dispatching extra enforcement to local synagogues or other places of worship at this time.
