A man who worked for the San Diego Community College District for more than three decades has pleaded not guilty to stealing more than $22,000 worth of equipment from his own department.
A judge ordered Gerald "Larry" Quick be held on $17,000 bail as he was charged with grand theft at his arraignment.
The former chief engineer of San Diego City College's Radio, Television and Film Department was arrested last week after four digital cameras were stolen from a locked cabinet in December.
Quick allegedly tried to sell the stolen equipment to local pawn shops, but police and college officials were able to identify the cameras through serial numbers, according to those close to the investigation.
Prosecutors say Quick admitted to stealing the equipment when he was arrested. The judge said he must stay away from the City College campus if he makes bail.
Quick faces up to three years in prison if convicted. He will next appear in court on Feb. 25.
