A San Diego couple hoping to celebrate their wedding in Wilmington, North Carolina is now at the mercy of Tropical Storm Florence.
Adriana Ruggiero and her fiancé David started planning their wedding after he popped the question on New Year’s Eve. They decided on celebrating in Wilmington not only for their love of the city, but also because of her future husband's family roots.
His friends and family are there, so the husband and wife to be, like others across the country, are on edge as they watch the storm wreak havoc on the central Atlantic coast.
As of Friday evening, five people were killed in storm-related incidents.
The venue Adriana picked months ago is right along the river's edge, an area already experiencing major flooding. Most of their guests are flying in and already have tickets. Adriana even had family coming in from Venezuela.
Adriana and David's Sunday flight has already been canceled. Vendors have not returned their emails and there doesn’t seem to be any answers at the moment.
“The most important part that we have been praying for is that no one gets hurt,” Adriana said. “Of course we want to have our wedding, but we are also aware that there are other things around this situation that are even bigger than our wedding.”

For now all the couple can do is follow updates on NBC 7 and hope that Mother Nature will allow the couple's journey to continue on in North Carolina.
“We know that it is a difficult time and we are trying to be patient and stay positive.
The couple says they probably won't have a better idea of what if any part of their wedding can be salvaged next week. Right now they are focusing on praying for people impacted by Florence.
