More than 5,300 SDG&E customers in downtown San Diego, Little Italy, Balboa Park and Golden Hill were suddenly without power around 5 p.m. on Saturday, according to SDG&E's power outage map.

By 7 p.m., power had been restored to more than 5,200 of those SDG&E customers who experienced the outage. By Sunday morning, all power had been restored.

Around the same time as the outage, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to a call about an electrical issue at the 700 block of Kettner Blvd. in downtown. SDG&E crews arrived to find several blocks without power. That outage impacted residents, multiple high-rises, traffic lights and businesses.

A spokesperson with the company said they are still investigating to determine the cause of the outage.

Since it was Saturday evening, plenty of folks were out and about in downtown San Diego and were affected by the outage.

“I was watching the USC game and it turned off with one minute left to play," said resident Andrew Briggs.

“All our neighbors started closing down randomly and we’re like, what’s going on? And I guess the whole block is out of power," said business owner Nooras Mikha.

“I just think that the traffic situation is a little worrisome because we’re on a Saturday night and there’s a lot of people out with their families and we’re kind of navigating these intersections on our own," said resident Beverly Waters.

“I got an email from my hotel manager saying the power was out for all of downtown San Diego," said resident Charles Williams.
