Tens of thousands of runners, walkers and spectators will fill the streets of San Diego this weekend as the 2018 Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon takes over the heart of the city.
The route for the marathon, 1/2 marathon and 5K covers a large section of the city from Mission Bay to Kensington and from Mission Valley to the Embarcadero.
As a result, there are a number of road closures including Friars Road and State Route 163.
On Saturday, the 5K begins at 7 a.m. near Balboa Park.
On Sunday, the marathon and the 1/2 marathon start at 6:15 a.m. as waves of runners tackle the course. The race event ends around 2:30 p.m.
San Diego residents and visitors can expect road closures and delays between 5:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Eighteen bus routes will have detours due to the course.
San Diego police and event personnel will guide and control traffic around the racers.
As happens every year, streets will reopen on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course support materials have been removed.
An interactive map of the closures can be seen here. There is also a map available via download at this link.
The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will have trolleys departing the SDCCU Stadium station every 7 minutes beginning at 4:30 a.m.
The stations with the best access to the starting line are the Fifth Avenue Station and the County Center/Little Italy Station, transit officials said.
