Two adults and one child were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation injuries Saturday after a fast-moving fire burned through their Oak Park home.
The fire started in the back of their home in the 5400 block of Grape Street around 2 p.m. and quickly spread to the roof, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) spokesperson Monica Munoz said.
The family of three living inside was able to get out of the house on their own, Munoz said. They were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Several pets were killed in the fire.
A large team of firefighters had to work quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to the attic and other homes in the neighborhood, Munoz said. SDFD had the blaze knocked down within 30 minutes.
This is the second fire in two days in the Oak Park neighborhood. On Friday, an RV fire quickly spread to a nearby home, sending a dark plume of smoke into the air above the neighborhood. Eleven people were living inside the home.
The cause of both fires has not been determined.
