SDFD Rescues Woman Trapped in Burning Home in North Park: SDFD

NBC 7’s Dave Summers spoke to neighbors who witnessed the dramatic rescue.

Firefighters rescued a woman trapped inside a burning home in North Park Tuesday night, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department confirmed.

Firefighters were called to a single-family home at 3553 Alabama St. just before 9 p.m. When they arrived, flames and smoke were visible from the street.

An SDFD battalion chief told NBC 7 firefighters spotted the woman on the ground beneath a layer of smoke. They were able to drag her out and load her into a waiting ambulance.

"It was just all black smoke you couldn't see anything you couldn't get in there," neighbor Emma Walsh said.

"There was a lot of smoke coming out of the roof of the house and the front door. You immediately saw the fire department going into the flames," neighbor Mark Burns said.

A San Diego Gas and Electric crew was also called to the scene. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but investigators said it started in the living room.

The victim's home was destroyed, according to SDFD. Damage was estimated at around $500,000.
