The Oddball Rolls Into the Children's Museum

Mini-golf, live entertainment, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres ... all for a tremendous cause?!? Sign me up!

This Saturday evening, the New Children’s Museum presents the Oddball, San Diego’s first art-inspired, mini-golf classic and live music benefit.  Raising funds in support of enhancing kids’ creativity through hands-on art projects and instruction, the adult-only event will offer open studio art-making and a nine-hole mini-golf course.  Constructed inside the stunning downtown museum space, the course will allow golfers to explore contemporary art and architecture while putt-ing off from a “creative collection of holes” -- in other words, no windmills or oversize clown heads.

Between holes, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served as some of San Diego’s top musical talent hits the museum stage.  Joining acclaimed DJ Saul Q will be the drumming, singing and hip-shaking one-woman act Smile Now Cry Later (aka photographer Lizeth Santos). Closing out the evening, recent San Diego Music Award winner -- and prolific oddball producer -- Rafter Roberts.  Rafter's latest independent release, Animal Feelings, is described as "smart, beautifully produced pop and R&B jams as seen through the lens of a man with a deep well of experimental and noise chops."  Recently, Roberts opened the sold-out Tom Tom Club show at the Casbah -- a perfect pairing, considering his '80s-inspired "Fruit"-remix (as heard below):
