Sounds Like San Diego: July 26

Smokey Robinson heads up Tuesday's live-music action in San Diego

When I was a little girl, my mom had a small but pretty decent collection of 45s. Our record player was already out of date and rarely used as we'd moved on to cassettes by then, but my mom sure did love waxing nostalgic about those Motown sounds she had collected. Tonight, Motown legend Smokey Robinson performs at Sycuan Casino, and while I'm sure he's got plenty of good years ahead of him, there's something special about catching the classics while you still can and while they're still actively touring. I know those casino shows can be a challenge both in getting there and to the wallet, so if you're just looking to kick it around town, rapper Chuck Inglish of the Cool Kids is at the Casbah, Happy Diving makes an appearance at Soda Bar, and Bebel Gilberto returns to the Belly Up.
