Make it a Classical Summer

The La Jolla Music Society Puts on its Annual Classica Celebration

Tonight, July 31 will be the first of many classical concerts that will be held in San Diego this month, courtesy of the La Jolla Music Society. SummerFest 2009 will kick of with a Piano Extravaganza starting at 7:30 p.m at the MCASD Sherwood Auditorium and will include pieces by Gershwin and Rachmaninoff.

The musical celebration will continue throughout the month of August and will feature all kinds of classical music from renowned orchestras to soloists to chamber music ensembles.

SummerFest is a nationally recognized annual event put on by the La Jolla Music Society that brings together over 70 world class artists who will perform in 13 concerts in the next four weeks.

The festival also includes a number of activities that are designed to expand audiences’ appreciation for classical music. The public can attend open rehearsals prior to the concerts to witness first hand the hard work and dedication involved in these classical performances.

SummerFest will also invite conservatory students to come and take classes from senior artists, grooming the next generation of classical musicians who will perform at the festival.

There is more specific information about these special events as well as detailed descriptions of all the concerts on the La Jolla Music Society website.
