A man arrested Thursday night in connection with a bank robbery in Poway could be connected to other robberies. In fact, there's a chance this suspect could be the so-called "Skateboard Bandit."
FBI agents say Colter Stanley Johnson, 25, of San Diego was arrested on Cable Street in Ocean Beach Thursday just before 9 p.m. Johnson is believed to have been involved in the robbery of the Chase Bank on Poway Road earlier the same day.
Detectives pulled him over and said he matched the suspect's description. Inside Johnson's car, police say they found a skateboard.
"He complied with the officers' instructions. He came out and was taken into custody and positively identified by the detectives who were surveilling him," said Lt. David Rohowits with the San Diego Police Department.
Robbery detectives say at this point they're working with the FBI to determine if Johnson is connected to other incidents.
The Skateboard Bandit is wanted in two robberies.
On Friday, July 23, a masked gunman was carrying his signature skateboard when he robbed a Wells Fargo Bank in Torrey Highlands, according to the FBI and police.
The suspect allegedly approached a teller, made a verbal demand for money, pulled up his shirt and displayed the handle of a handgun.
The bandit demanded that the teller place the money into a black backpack that he set on the counter.
Investigators say the robbery on 7875 Highland Village Place was caught on camera.
A man fitting the same description is also suspected of robbing the Comerica Bank at 3312 Rosecrans in the Midway Area on July 12.
