It's official: Summer is here, and the weather has been perfect, so you have no excuses. Get off the couch! If you like music, then this list is for you. I remind you I host the night at the Merrow in Hillcrest every Tuesday evening (free parking at the DMV), so please join me for local and touring talent. Otherwise, I have a list compiled by Pyles, that's me, for you, so read if you dare.
July 1: The Spits, the Widows and Therapy at the Casbah. One of the most fun punk bands you could witness live.
July 2: Reyah, Solyria and Kid Gruesome at the Merrow. This is one of those Tuesdays I host, so see you there....
July 3: Ceremony, Sheer Mag and Bugg at the Irenic. Ceremony is everything from punk to post-punk and even gothy.
July 4: The English Beat for two nights at the Belly Up. Do it for Ranking Roger!
July 5: Amerikan Bear and Shades McCool at the Soda Bar. Local band Amerikan Bear return from their slumber to play some psych rock for you.
July 6: Earthless and Crypt Trip at the Casbah for two nights! See them in a small club now, because your next chance is Wonderfront Festival.
July 7: Chuck Ragan Revival tour at the Belly Up. Hot Water Music frontman and his band of gypsies.
July 8: Amyl & the Sniffers at the Soda Bar. Melbourne, Australia's punkiest of the punks -- so good, so dangerous, don't be scared. This is what the kids should be doing now!
July 9: Secret Fun Club, Tap & Die and Shoot the Glass at the Casbah. Are you a card carrying member of the Secret Fun Club? Then you know to bring earplugs....
July 10: GRRRL Independent Ladies presents Vaya Futuro, Le Ra, Penny Pacheco and the Slashes at the Casbah. GRRRL Independent Ladies is a hub for women to meet and express themselves creatively using the Tijuana/San Diego border wall as a social infrastructure with the activation of music (that statement is from them), so please support!
July 11: Kid N Play and Sir Mix a Lot at Sycuan Live and Up Close. The stars of the House Party franchise, and who doesn't want to hear "Baby Got Back" from the guy that created it?
July 12: Howard Jones and Men Without Hats at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay. Seminal '80s artists with songs that are still embedded in your head.
July 13: The Loons, Hollywood Sinners, Velvet Starlings and Salt Lick at Soda Bar. This will be a rock and/or a roll show. You should go!
July 14: Jackie Mendoza at Soda Bar. Latin pop and electronica from Jackie Mendoza, who was born and raised right here in Chula Vista, California, and has strong roots in Tijuana.
July 15: No Knife and Rob Crow at the Casbah. Thank you Jawbox for getting No Knife to play again, because we got this bonus local show.
July 16: The Hiroshima Mockingbirds, the Lucy Ring and City Windows at the Casbah. What if I told you I booked this show, but will be at the Merrow, so support either or both!
July 17: The Appleseed Cast and Young Jesus at Soda Bar. The Appleseed Cast celebrate more than 20 years as band in the emo genre and are from Lawrence, Kansas.
July 18: Dressy Bessy, Potty Mouth and Colleen Green at Soda Bar. Give it up for the ladies, get the ladies up front and give them a mic!
July 19: Black Pistol Fire and Thunderpussy at the Belly Up. Are you ready to rock? The openers should have given it away. Don't deny the Thunderpussy....
July 20: Twiztid at SOMA. This one is for all the juggalos, of which I know none....
July 21: Don't Stop or We Will Die at Soda Bar. They are a power pop musical trio that has appeared on Comedy Bang! Bang!
July 22: We Were Promised Jetpacks and Catholic Action at the Casbah. Scottish indie rockers return.
July 23: The Beths at the Soda Bar. A little something from Auckland, New Zealand, that you will like, just trust me.
July 24: Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven at the Belly Up. David Lowery fronts both bands, and they have a cavalcade of hits each....
July 25: The Alarm, Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezabel and Modern English at the House of Blues. Let's dance like no one's watching and remember the '80s, but also, the Alarm have a new album called "Sigma," and it's really good.
July 26: SoundDiego LIVE at the Holding Company in Ocean Beach with La Diabla, Jonny Wagon & the Tennessee Sons and Sweet Tooth. It's hosted by yours truly -- RSVP here for the FREE event.
July 27: X at the Belly Up for two nights. Count them, two! This is American punk rock!
July 28: The Raconteurs at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre. You've heard of Jack White, but have you heard of Brendan Benson?
July 29: Le Saboteur, No Win and the Petty Saints at the Casbah. Full on disclaimer, I booked this show, but it will be awesome, and it's filled to the gills with local talent. Get some!
July 30: The Drums at Observatory North Park.
July 31: Streetlight Manifesto at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay -- general admission, standing room only! Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up, it's ska!
31 days of shows and each month another list. It just never stops -- shows, shows, shows and more shows! I can't wait to see you at one; I am happy to lay down some free high fives or hugs and don't forget to RSVP to SoundDiego LIVE edition 66.... Execute Order 66 ... in this case, RSVP....
