Music truly lives forever: The final studio album by Jeffrey Joe Morin, the beloved San Diego singer-songwriter who sadly passed away in 2017, will receive its official album release show on Tuesday, July 17 at Vision: A Center for Spiritual Living (4780 Mission Gorge Place).
"Don't Get to Know Me," which Jeffrey Joe had finished prior to his death, features contributions from several prominent local musicians including the Euphoria Brass Band, Rob Thorsen, Steph Johnson, Josh Hermsmeier, Lindsay White, Veronica May and more. Even though the record was technically released posthumously last year, the July 17 event (which lands on the one-year anniversary of his death and also doubles as a tribute concert) will be its official release show.
Organized by Jeff Berkley (of Berkley Sound) and Morin's fiancee, Carina Wheatley, the upcoming concert will boast several of the musicians who performed on "Don't Get to Know Me" -- as well as other long-time contemporaries such as Gregory Page and Larry Grano.
"Jeffrey Joe was a walking encyclopedia of music," Berkley said in a press release. "He was a living jukebox with the gift of interpretation. You may have heard the songs before but not like this. Something about JJ’s past authenticated the words and melody. Something about his gentle lilt. Something about his slow vibrato. Something about his complete immersion in the performance. Some little piece of heart and soul in every word and every breath. Every note a gift."
The July 17 show will be a fitting send-off for the local legend's final studio effort -- and a joyful celebration of his life, music and legacy. Be there.
Tickets to the 'Don't Get to Know Me' Album Release Show are $20 (includes one copy of the album per family) and are available here. Doors are at 6:30 p.m.
