Dave Summers is a tenured news and investigative reporter with NBC 7 for more than a decade.

Dave has won multiple Investigative journalism awards in southwest region Emmy competitions, San Diego Press Club and Society of Professional Journalism contests.

If you are looking for him you’ll likely find him wherever there is an emergency, the latest information or a breaking story.

Dave has belonged to multiple news organizations including Investigative Reporters and Editors, Society for Professional Journalists, San Diego and Cleveland Ohio Press Clubs and National Academy of television Arts and Sciences.

Dave began his career as a teenager, writing for The Times Recorder, the local newspaper in his hometown of Zanesville, Ohio as well as the Catholic Times.

He is a graduate of The Ohio State University.

Dave worked as an investigative reporter in 1991 at WCMH in Columbus, OH.  His following stints at WLWT in Cincinnati and WJW in Cleveland, honed his craft in enterprising unique story angles and being the ‘go to’ reporter when it came to live reporting on major stories.

At NBC affiliate WKYC in Cleveland, Dave was the Executive Producer and Investigative Reporter for the Target-3 I-team.  The long list of accolades there include twenty-two journalistic awards. Six Emmy’s, ‘Best Reporter in Ohio’ four times from the Society of Professional Journalists, another ‘Best Reporter in Ohio’ from the Ohio Associated Press, and eleven 'Best Reporting' Awards from the Cleveland Press Club.

No doubt San Diego was a big change for this Ohio transplant, but Dave is known for being outgoing and energetic on top of having the curiosity and tenacity of an investigative journalist. 

Look for Dave Summers walking his westie 'Carter', on a local golf course and on the NBC 7 News at 4, 5, 6 and 11PM.
