Catherine Garcia anchors NBC7 News, weeknights at 4pm, 6 pm and 11 pm. She has also been awarded multiple Emmys and a Golden Mike Award for her reporting in San Diego.
Catherine joined NBC 7 in 2003. She came to San Diego from Dallas, where she was a reporter and anchor at WFAA. She also spent several years as an anchor/reporter in Austin and El Paso. She got her start in journalism working behind the scenes at CNN Headquarters in Atlanta and the CNN Los Angeles Bureau.
Catherine received her bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish from the University of Southern California. She also studied abroad through the Semester at Sea program.
She is especially proud of her special reports on the mental health care crisis, “Breakdown: Investigating San Diego’s Health Care Crisis” (link: www.nbcsandiego.com/breakdown), as well as her documentary on the fentanyl crisis, “Poison Pill.” (link: www.nbc7.com/poisonpill).
Catherine loves to spend her free time with her family, which includes two cats and two dogs. She’s also a big fan of tennis, traveling, good food and the USC Trojans.
