Kovacs is the reigning shot put world champion. He finished fourth at the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials, just missing the final qualifying position for the London Games. A 2012 graduate of Penn State University, Kovacs lived and trained at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California before heading to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
