Introduced to sailing at 8 years old, Briana Provancha’s sailing career blossomed in high school after joining the Southwestern Yacht Club in San Diego, Calif. She later sailed to four high school national championship victories and gold in the 29er at the 2007 ISAF Youth World Championships in Kingston, Canada, before reaching college. “Standing on the podium that night in Kingston was when my Olympic dream came alive,” says Provancha. Provancha was admitted to Boston College in 2008 and lead the Eagles to two co-ed, one team race and two women’s national championships. Other accolades include winning two Leonard M. Fowle trophies, women’s MVP and 2012 Outstanding Senior. Provancha, alongside U.S. sailing teammate Annie Haeger began full-time Olympic training in the 470 in September 2012. “I look forward to the start of another great journey this time with former BC teammate Annie Haeger in the 470,” Provancha states. They have officially qualified for an Olympic selection and will join Team USA in Rio.
