There will be music in the air Monday as San Diego’s Waterfront Park hosts open call auditions for the 15th and final season of the reality TV singing competition, “American Idol.”
The auditions run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the northwest section of the park located at 1600 Pacific Highway in downtown San Diego. Organizers expect about 2,500 aspiring singers to show up, with some lining up as early at 6 a.m. for their shot at singing stardom.
Waterfront Park will be open as usual throughout the auditions. Parking around the park is very limited and is expected to fill up quickly, so park officials suggest people take public transit to the area.
As usual, the “American Idol” auditions will be performed a cappella for casting crews. The show’s celebrity judges are not expected to be part of this open call in San Diego.
Any singers trying out for the show must be between 15 and 28 years old and either a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal U.S. resident. For more eligibility requirements, click here.
Additional open call auditions will be held in Pittsburgh, Tucson and Indianapolis, to name a few stops.
“American Idol’s” 15th and final season returns to television next year.
In 2012, Chula Vista resident Jessica Sanchez made it very far in the "American Idol" competition, coming in as runner-up on season 11 of the show. Phillip Phillips won that year.
