Thick, heavy black plumes of smoke could be seen for miles from a Coronado boat fire early Saturday morning.
In NBC 7 San Diego viewer video, flames could be seen climbing higher as flames tore through a single boat on the 1700 block of Strand Way.
Coronado Fire officials, Coronado Police officers, San Diego Fire officials and Harbor Police responded to the fire early Saturday morning around 7 a.m., said Coronado Fire Chief Bill Modeem.
"It’s a stubborn fire to put out. You have fuel from the boat spilling on the water. At one point the tank ruptured and it had a heavy flair up of the fire," he said. "It’s difficult to put out when the boat’s moving around on the water."
Officials have closed the dock and Glorietta Bay, which was damaged by the fire, due to an 80 gallon fuel spill. Coronado officials hope to have it open by the 4th of July for the fireworks. Boats will not be allowed to dock there.
The Department of Environmental Health issued a water contact closure for the launch and 150 yards of beach to the south.
The signs will be in place until the area is safe.

The Coronado Fire Chief said nobody was on board at the time and no injuries were reported.
The circumstances that led up to the fire are under investigation.
