The case of a home that many Point Loma residents describe as an eyesore appears to be resolved.
A San Diego County judge on Thursday said the developer, who was facing city violations, had sold the home to an unrelated party. Francisco Mendiola had been told he must either wrap up the development project by Jan. 7 or sell the home.
The house sold on Dec. 1 and the judge said Mendiola had fulfilled his duties.
Still, some residents say they have a lot of questions. Namely, who would have purchased it?
“We’re still suspicious of the sale because we believe no one in their right mind would have bought that house,” neighbor Jim Dorsey said.
Neighbors had worked with the San Diego City Attorney’s Office to file charges against the developer after they say the eyesore, located in the 1,600 block of Plum Street, violated city codes.
The eyesore started as a remodeling project eight years ago that took out neighborhood sidewalks, mailboxes and built into city right-of-ways.

The judge is requiring a declaration letter from the new owner to verify the validity of the purchase.
In addition, neighbors said they plan to ask the city to verify that the home isn’t violating the city code’s height requirements.
