Biking to local business just got easier.
A new bike corral debuted in North Park on Thursday morning to encourage cyclists to ride instead of drive. City officials joined the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition (SDCBC) in opening the new corral on 30th Street and North Park Way.
The βBike-Friendly Business Districtβ initiative hopes to attract more cycling customers with ample parking for their bikes. SDCBC wants to help neighborhood shops
The program also encourages retailers to offer discounts to those who ride their bicycles to businesses.
Other neighborhood business associations are hoping to join North Park by adding bike corrals around town, including Hillcrest, Pacific Beach and East Village.
βIβm proud to represent so many neighborhoods that are taking steps to make San Diego a leader in bicycling as transportation,β said San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria. βItβs a win-win situation: our businesses benefit from bicycling customers, who will also lessen vehicular traffic on our streets.β
