A masked gunman was carrying his signature skateboard when he robbed a Wells Fargo Bank in Torrey Highlands -- scaring employees and customers inside, according to the FBI and police.
Investigators say the robbery on 7875 Highland Village Place was caught on camera. A man fitting the same description is also suspected of robbing the Comerica Bank at 3312 Rosecrans in the Midway Area on July 12.
During Friday's robbery he allegedly approached a teller, made a verbal demand for money, pulled up his shirt and displayed the handle of a handgun. The bandit demanded that the teller place the money into a black backpack that he set on the counter.
The teller complied and placed a sum of money into the backpack. The robber picked up the backpack and walked out of the bank.
The robber carried a skateboard with him and his face was covered with a green paisley bandana that covered the robber’s nose and mouth. He may have left the area in a white late model SUV.
The bank was closed for hours while investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
