New facts emerged Wednesday about the circumstances surrounding the death last weekend of a South Bay high school student.
The female student was a junior at Mater Dei High in Chula Vista. The student died in Mexico, according to the county health department. The agency said that they have information that the student tested positive for Influenza A. That often turns into a positive test for swine flu, but a second test was never done to confirm that.
It's not known if the student had any underlying medical conditions at the time of her death.
Mexico is not providing any more information about the girl's death and will not say what the official cause of death was.
Dale Lieu, an infectious disease specialist, said parents should not overreact and not take children to an emergency room or doctor's office unless they have serious symptoms.
