Bristol Man Charged in Connection With Hernandez Case

A 27-year-old man from Bristol, Conn., who was charged as a fugitive from justice in connection with the murder case that former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez was charged in, has been arraigned in a Massachusetts courtroom.

Carlos Ortiz was charged in Connecticut as a fugitive from justice on Wednesday and appeared in Superior Court in Bristol, where he waived extradition to Massachusetts, according to the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of New Britain.

He was turned over to Massachusetts autorities at 11:20 a.m. and was driven to North Attleboro police station where he was processed.  He was arraigned in Attleboro court a short time later.

Outside court in Bristol, Ortiz's friends said he would not be involved in anything bad and his cousin called the arrest a shock.

According to the state’s attorney, Bristol police and the state’s attorney’s office have been assisting in the investigation into the homicide of Odin Lloyd, 27, of Dorchester, at the request of police in Massachusetts.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with Lloyd’s murder.

Prosecutors said Hernandez orchestrated an execution-style killing because Lloyd talked to the wrong people at a nightclub.

The state’s attorney said they can have no further comment because the investigation is ongoing.
All documents related to the case have been sealed by order of the court.

Police have also taken Ernest Wallace, 41, of Bristol, into custody in connection with the case.

He was wanted as an accessory after the fact to murder.

Police told WHDH that Wallace turned himself in and will be turned over to Massachusetts State Police.
