Just because you lose to the Mormons doesn't mean you can joke about them.
Following a loss in the West Coast Conference tournament to Bringham Young University, University of San Francisco mens basketball coach Rex Walters had some comments for which he's made amends, according to The Deseret News.
The Dons had lost in overtime when Walters gave his opinion of the competition in the tournament, from which his team bowed out in the semifinals.
"I would say we are the best team in this tournament," the losing coach began.
"There may be a lot of Mormons mad at me, but I don't give a rat's you-know-what what the state of Utah thinks of me. I'm proud of our guys. They won the game tonight. They deserved it. They played better tonight."
That apparently made some folks upset, as the coach issued a Twitter apology on Tuesday morning.
U.S. & World
Did not mean to offend any Mormons/BYU fans. I apologize if I did. I wasn't taking a shot at anyone. BYU won & deserved the W. — Rex Walters (@USFBBallCoach) March 11, 2014
