Belly Up Takes Care of Its Own

The Belly Up Tavern recently added a benefit show on Nov. 29 to the schedule, but it's not just any other show. When SoulRaye, Stripes and Lines, and DJ Man-Ca take the stage, they'll be performing for "beloved" longtime Belly Up employee Kat Mills, 42, who was recently hospitalized for heart failure due to a genetic disorder.

In addition to that condition, Mills' lungs failed while she was being treated, and doctors put her into a 24-hour induced coma to buy her time to recover. Doctors eventually implanted an ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) to stabilize the box-office worker, who will be out of work for another six weeks, according to Belly Up officials.

Mills "is adored by many of her local patrons," the club said in a news release. "Her miraculous recovery was due in part to the quick response of the Solana Beach Fire Department and the staff at Encinitas Scripps Memorial Hospital."

The benefit will feature performances by SoulRaye, Stripes and Lines and DJ Man-Cat, as well as a silent auction and raffle drawing.

To donate money or silent auction items, please send the Belly Up an e-mail by Nov. 24.
