The 21st Annual San Diego Music Awards were celebrated at Humphrey's Concerts by the Bay Monday night. Fans voted on 23 of the 27 categories. The winners in the remaining four categories were selected by members of the San Diego Music Academy.
Little Hurricane, who won for Best New Artist last year, were the clear runaways of the night, with three awards, including Album of the Year. Before they could make their acceptance speech for Album of the Year, which is the biggest plum of the night, a guy ran up to the mike and claimed that the band Black Plum was the greatest band in San Diego, in effect pulling a Kanye West on the band, but CC of Little Hurricane pulled off a great Taylor Swift imitation of her own and delivered a very classy acceptance speech. Tom has video of this as well as a bite with the band after talking about it.
A close second for the night was Tim Lowman, who is the one-man band Low Volts, who took home two awards as a sola artist -- including Best New Artist -- and a third as a member of the band Blackout Party, who took the award for Best Americana. Also worth noting were the Transfer band, who took home two statuettes apiece, for Song of the Year ("Losing Composure") and Best Rock.
