A few lucky -- and well-heeled -- Glee fans will be treated to a show at the Salk Institute later this month.
Do you have $250 burning a hole in your pocket? How about 75 grand? If so, you're in luck, Broadway -- and Glee -- star Idina Menzel will be performing on Aug. 27 in La Jolla at the annual Symphony at Salk -- a Concert Under the Stars fundraiser for the institute.
Joining Menzel -- better known as Shelby Corcoran to viewers of the megahit TV show -- onstage will be the members of the San Diego Symphony. According to the folks at Salk, Menzel is on a "sold-out tour, performing with leading orchestras around the country, including the New York Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra."
The 40-year-old singer, who is also very well known for her roles on Broadway in Rent and Wicked, has won a Tony award for her work in Wicked and has recorded three albums of solo material as well.
Want more? Menzel is married to actor Taye Diggs. Will he show at the Salk? Who knows, but we wouldn't complain.
So, what can you expect on Aug. 27 for all that financial do-gooding? Well, there's a champagne reception at 5:30 in the Theodore Gildred Courtyard overlooking the Pacific. Then, at 6:30, you'll tuck in to a gourment dinner courtesy of Jeffery Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille, in Solana Beach. The show kicks off at 8 p.m. And if you handed over 75 large for an event sponsorship (lower levels of sponsorshop are also available), you'll be dining with nine of your closest friends and enjoying front-row seats and reserved parking, plus you and a guest will be invited to the pre-Symphony Benefactors Dinner the night before. Need a place to stay, though? They're throwing in a room for two for the weekend at Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa -- and there's more, too.
Organizers say this is the 16th annual event and that that the fundraiser, which benefits the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, sells out every year.
