Girard Avenue is taking on a new look. For two days, that is.
La Jolla is celebrating its artist colony roots on October 10 and 11 with the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival. Boasting the flair and energy of a modern European street fair, this event will feature over 300 booths featuring artists from Southern California and Northern Baja, as selected by jury.
“La Jolla has a rich history as an artist colony,” said event organizer and long-time La Jolla advocate Sherry Ahern. “We want to celebrate that heritage, while presenting a unique and contemporary festival combining the creativity and sophistication of today’s artists.”
All proceeds from this event will be going to three local public schools in the San Diego Unified School District: La Jolla Elementary, Torrey Pines Elementary, and Bird Rock Elementary to help fund commonly underfunded programs, including art, music, science, physical education, technology and on-site medical care by a school nurse.
The festival will have something for everyone, including beers and wines from local breweries and wineries, performers, gourmet food vendors, emerging artists, a silent auction and a children's art center.
The market was created by the Friends of La Jolla Elementary, Inc. as an extension of it's already-established Open Aire Farmers' Market. While the Open Aire Market will remain free of charge on Sunday, tickets to the festival will cost $7 for adults, $3 for kids 12 and under, and free for kids 2 and under.
